According to Mariko Yasu of Bloomberg News UBS AG, Europe's biggest bank by assets, will hold its biggest art exhibition in Tokyo next year, aiming to increase the presence of its wealth management business in the world's second-largest economy.
The bank will showcase 140 of its more than 1,000 paintings, photographs, sculptures, video works and other contemporary art at the Mori Art Museum for two months starting Feb. 2, it said in a press release. The exhibition will be the first for the bank in Japan after smaller events in New York, London and Melbourne, according to Masako Ogiya, a Tokyo-based spokesman.
UBS, which has been in Japan since 1965, wants to boost its presence in the country as it seeks to grab a bigger share of savings amassed by the country's millionaires. The Zurich-based money manager is adding outlets and hiring more bankers, Jean- Claude Humair, head of wealth management for UBS in Japan, said in July.
The bank's art collection includes work by Roy Lichtenstein, a U.S. pop artist, and U.K. painter Lucian Freud.
